Who’s Who
Havoc in Wyoming Characters
Jake Caldwell: A bachelor until age thirty-seven, he married Mollie and suddenly became a dad to four girls. A couple of years later they added a son. Jake juggles work, a farm, and family life—sometimes it’s a struggle.
Mollie Caldwell: Wife to Jake and mom to Sarah, Angela, Calley, Katie, and Malcolm. With a full-time work-from-home job, homeschooling, and their small farm, she keeps busy. A few times a year she works out of state for a week. This is one of those weeks.
Malcolm Caldwell: Jake and Mollie’s youngest child. He’s almost eleven and is Jake’s right-hand man. He’s the only child still living at home.
Sarah Garrett: Katie’s oldest sister and wife to Tate. They recently moved less than two hours away from Katie’s parents—neighbors by Wyoming standards. Tate’s parents, Keith and Lois, along with his older sister, Karen, are visiting from Oklahoma.
Angela Carpenter: Katie’s older sister, wife to Tim, and mom to two-year-old Gavin, living in Casper, Wyoming. Angela and Katie are very close.
Calley Curtis: Two year’s older than Katie, the sisters have had a rocky relationship. Things seem to be better now. Calley and her husband, Mike, make their home in Casper. Mike’s parents, Roy and Deanne, live next door. Mike’s recently single sister, Sheila Stapleton, also lives in Casper. They’re a tight-knit family, at least it seems so on the surface.
Katrina “Katie” Andrews: Twenty-one-year-old college student working toward a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She’s living on her own in Manhattan, Kansas—at least, that’s what her parents think. Not wanting to disappoint them, she hasn’t mentioned her boyfriend moved in several months ago.
Leo Burnett: Katie’s boyfriend. A business major at K-State, construction worker, and Marine. Leo has been studying to become an EMT but isn’t sure if that’s the route he wants to go.
Alvin and Dodie Caldwell:Jake’s parents. They are both in their seventies and fiercely independent. They live in the nearby town of Prospect.
Robert, Theresa, Michelle, and Ashley Caldwell: Jake’s brother and his family living in California. Michelle and Ashley are the same age as Calley and Katie.
Doris and Evan Snyder: Neighbors and good friends of the Caldwells. Evan is a retired deputy sheriff, having been part of the county’s Specialized Services Division. Doris is retired from both the Navy and a government job. She insists she wasn’t a spy or anything, but she doesn’t talk about the work she used to do.
David, Betty, Noah, and Andrew Hammer: Neighbors and friends of the Caldwells. The Hammers are Texas natives recently transplanted to Wyoming. They love the cooler weather and wide-open spaces. David and Betty are both retired. Noah is sixteen and Andrew is in his early twenties. Two more adult children live in Texas with their spouses and a grandbaby. Their oldest son lives back east.
The MacIntyre Family: Alex and Natalie, along with their children, teach permaculture and homesteading immersion classes. Their classes are a great way to learn the ins and outs of farm life. They have many skills and abilities for living off the land.
Dan Morse: The community bully. He tends to make a show of knowing it all. Evan calls Dan “an imbecile who lacks a shred of common sense.”
Terry, Belinda, and TJ Bosco: Community members. Terry stands up to Dan at the community meetings. Belinda, a nurse practitioner, is fourth-generation Bakerville and related to the founders of the community. TJ is friends with Malcolm. Belinda’s mom, Tammy, a retired labor and delivery nurse, and dad, Tom, a retired hunting and fishing guide, also live in the community.
Phil and Kelley Hudson: Community members. Katie’s mom, Mollie, considers Kelley one of her closest friends. Phil, retired Coast Guard, is a leader of the community. Kelley is a psychiatric nurse practitioner, retired from the Commissioned Corps.
Olivia Hatch: Nearby neighbor of Mollie and Jake. Katie and Olivia become fast friends. Olivia’s son, Tony, is friends with Malcolm, and her young daughter, Lily, loves everyone. Olivia’s husband, Jason, is away for work.
